Campaign Responses

Here's where you can find my thoughts and my position on campaigns people have emailed me about. It might take me a bit of time to formulate a response so if you've sent in a campaign email and can't yet see a response then please do check back later.

Rooftop Solar

I’m proud that my constituents have such an active consciousness towards building a sustainable future both for Southend West and nationally. Protecting the beauty of our countryside is something I consider deeply important, and I also appreciate the need to decarbonise the energy sector.

Protecting Landscapes

I've been contacted recently by constituents about protecting historic landscapes. I appreciate the depth of your concerns about reports of proposals to build a solar farm on land that inspired The Hobbit.

School Meals

I agree that all children should be able to access healthy food at school every day. As a member of the Education Select Committee, education is one of my top priorities and with the help of good nutrition, pupils will be ready to learn and have the chance to achieve their full potential.

Animal Welfare

I have been contacted by many constituents about the very important issue of animal welfare. As an animal lover myself, this is an issue that I take extremely seriously, and I am proud to be continuing the work that Sir David Amess did on this.

Retained EU Law Bill

In January 2022, the Government announced plans to bring forward a Bill to create a more innovative regulatory regime that would not have been possible were the UK still a member of the European Union.

Financial Services and Markets Bill

I was incredibly concerned to learn of PayPal’s decision to shut down certain accounts citing its “Acceptable Use Policy”. It is deeply worrying that a company can so quickly, and without warning, withdraw financial services from users likely reliant on continued funding.

Gear Change

The Government is investing over £2 billion in cycling and walking over the course of this Parliament.

Plastic Reduction

The Resources and Waste Strategy for England sets out the Government’s plans to reduce, reuse, and recycle more plastic than we do now. Ministers have committed to work towards all plastic packaging placed on the market being recyclable or reusable by 2025.

Protected Fishing

I am very proud to represent a coastal community, and fishing has been an important part of our local economy for a thousand years. My father was a keen fisherman and used to take me out in his boat at the weekend, and I want to preserve this pastime for generations to come.

Water Pollution

Southend West is known for its outstanding fishing and tourist industries, and I understand how important clean water is for everyone locally.
