On Saturday 18th May 2024, I will once again take part in a charity abseil challenge, this time to raise money for the Spotlight Radiotherapy Appeal at Southend Hospital.
Alongside the current Mayor Cllr Stephen Habermel, I'm going to harness up and walk backwards over the edge of the 154ft tower block which forms part of the hospital site.
I first tackled the abseil challenge in 2022, dressed in a Wonder Woman outfit, and I was delighted to raise over £2,100 through the generosity of 50 fabulous sponsors. I absolutely loved the experience and can’t wait to do it again!
As I’m scared of heights, it was quite a challenge, and I was extremely nervous beforehand. I am very pleased that I followed the advice of those around me not to look down! I expect I’ll be just as nervous second time around, but it’s wonderful to be able to raise money for our terrific hospital that will go towards helping those in need of treatment, so I’ll focus on that instead!
Please do sponsor me if you can! Here’s the link to my Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/page/anna-firth-charity-abseil-2024
As I'm a patron of local charity Prost8, I chose to pledge the money I raised last time to the Elizabeth Loury Ward which treats patients with prostate cancer. I was joined by the Royal British Legion’s Bob O’Leary for the 2022 abseil.
The charity abseil is being organised by Southend Hospital and participants are encouraged to raise money for a ward/department/appeal of their choice. The minimum age limit is 14-yrs and fancy dress is encouraged. Participants can also purchase a charity t-shirt in a variety of colours.
If you’d like to get involved you can contact Southend Hospital’s Department of Fundraising on 01702 385337 or email [email protected].
