The Southend West MP sponsored an event in the Houses of Parliament to raise awareness of endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women of any age, leading to severe symptoms including back pain and difficultly getting pregnant.
According to the Royal College of Nursing, it costs the UK economy £8.2bn a year in treatment, loss of work and health care costs.
Backing the event alongside Carla Cressy, a constituent of Southend West and the founder of the Endometriosis Foundation, Anna praised her for the amazing work she has done in raising awareness of the condition which is as common as asthma.
Holland & Barrett were also present to discuss their ongoing campaign to raise awareness through their ‘Her Health on the High Street’ campaign which launched in London on the same day.
They were also joined by Karl Storz, a ground-breaking company changing the lives of women across the world by developing advanced diagnostic technologies.
Anna said,
“We must continue to keep banging the drum on our call for change, so that every woman across the country is able to access the right information, support and diagnosis for endometriosis, including new care pathways, specialist services, and real mental health support.”
