The local MP showed her support for the Southend Makes Music festival on Tuesday night as she supported local school students expressing their creative talents in the Palace Theatre.
Organised by the Music on Sea group, which is supported by both funding from the Department for Education and Arts Council England, Southend Makes Music put on four nights of fantastic entertainment from over 800 students across the city.
Performances were organised from 24 different groups, including choirs, rock bands and an orchestra.
Amongst it all was Sonny the Bird, the official mascot of the week who helped provide even more smiles to an already happy occasion.
Anna clapped along to Leigh North Street pupils, a primary school in her constituency of Southend West which has received support from Arts Council England in the past to unlock their student’s full potential.
Following the event, Anna praised the students and reaffirmed her ambitions to make Southend the City of Culture 2029, saying that events such as Southend Makes Music were proof the city is ready for the coveted title.
Anna said,
“Southend Makes Music is such an awesome event, giving our young people both the confidence and space to try out their creative talents whilst gaining extra confidence.”
“I was delighted to attend on the Tuesday night, wishing I could have done all four showings throughout the week. It was an especially proud moment to watch Leigh North Street blow the room away with their performance.”
