Leigh-on-Sea has faced a banking crisis, with Natwest and Barclays announcing closures, meaning Nationwide are the only bank in the town left, but still don’t offer a service to business customers. However, with a great number of businesses and an above average age demographic, the demand for banks on the high street is continuing to be important for residents.
Anna Firth MP for Southend West is very much aware of this issue and has hence advocated tirelessly for better access for cash. She has raised the issue of banking hubs in the House of Commons numerous times and has spoken to local residents and business owners to listen to their concerns and what improvements they think need to be made.
Link, the UK’s largest cash machine network, who provide communities with access to cash services through services such as cashback and banking hubs, are considering trialling a pilot scheme for improved deposit solutions for cash.
Cash Access UK have been charged with developing the pilot scheme, and upon the recommendation from Link, are to include Leigh-on-Sea into their plans.
Anna said,
“I am extremely delighted to hear that Leigh-on-Sea is to being considered to pilot a scheme to improve deposit solutions for cash. I know that my constituents in Leigh-on-Sea have faced serious difficulties with a number of banks announcing closures on the high street. Cash is so important for businesses, charities and elder people, and we need to have inclusive facilities for everyone to thrive.”
