On Friday 22nd July, Anna Firth MP hosted a Ukrainian refugee event with the Mayor of Southend, Kevin Robinson, at the official mayoral residence, Porters.
Anna has welcomed many refugees into Southend West, and she has worked around the clock with the Home Office and various charities and supporters, to ensure that the innocent Ukrainians are put into safety in Southend West. She has now helped over a dozen families flee from the illegal invasion of Ukraine, to the far safer and more secure Southend.
Anna was so happy to see so many of the Ukrainian families at the tea party, and she was able to listen to their insights and experiences, and what she can do to help them.
Southend is lucky to have so many generous and welcoming members of society, who are providing a place to stay for the refugees.
A host at the event said,
“My wife and I know a family in Ukraine, and we got in contact with them once we knew their city was affected by the war. We only thought it was the right thing to do, to offer for them to stay with us in Southend.”
A refugee at the event said,
“I am really thankful of our host for taking me and my family in to stay with them. We are all very uncertain in these times, but we are getting on with our lives. I am now studying here and hoping to go to university this summer”.
Anna said at the event,
“I am so happy to see so many Southenders have volunteered to host Ukrainian refugees. I have found it extraordinary to hear the stories from the refugees, and it is so inspiring to hear. They have come here and fully immersed themselves into our community and making the most out of what we have to offer”.
