On Monday 11th July, Anna Firth MP opened the new building at Lancaster Special School. Anna was joined by Jackie Mullan, CEO of the SEN Trust Southend and head teacher, Tom Jackson Owens.
The opening of the new building will allow the school to offer 40 more spaces to students in the future, which will relieve some pressure off the SEN Trust. The new building has state-of-the-art facilities, with large and naturally bright classrooms. The newly opened building will be a great asset to the school and Southend West.
Head master, Tom Jackson Owen said,
“Three, or four years ago we saw the need for more places and to provide better facilities. What we need is better modern facilities and here we now have three new large classrooms, with all the modern facilities to cater for youngsters with severe, profound needs”.
Jackie Mullans said at the opening,
“I am delighted to see and support an expanded, better fit provision for increasing numbers of pupils at Lancaster School for post 14 provision”.
Jackie Mullans is sadly retiring this year, and she cannot be thanked enough by all staff in the SEN Trust and wider community, for her countless years of service and hardwork. Thank you Jackie for the whole hearted care for your children throughout your service.
Anna said at the opening of the new building,
“I am so happy to be able to open the new building at Lancaster School. I visited the school earlier this month, and I know the hard work that everyone here and in the trust does. I trust that this new building is going to see the school develop tremendously. Lancaster School is a true asset to Southend West.”
