Thank you for contacting me about farrowing crates and the fair treatment of pigs in the UK.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me about electric collars. As a keen animal lover and a patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, I take great interest in animal welfare causes.

I want to assure you that I am completely against this awful practice. I am a proud patron of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation and believe that we must do all we can to ensure that animals are treated fairly.

I appreciate every email, letter, and call that I receive from constituents concerned about the safety of our pets. I have always been an animal lover, and I know that many Southend residents are the same.

I would like to start by acknowledging the many great pubs and restaurants in Southend and Leigh. These pubs are essential parts of our community, staffed and managed by hard working people and serving high quality food and drink.

My esteemed predecessor, Sir David Amess, was one of the first and strongest voices to call for the ban of fox hunting. At a time when many Members were not in favour of banning fox hunts, Sir David pushed on and galvanised support behind the cause of the ban, and his cause succeeded.

I share many of my constituents’ concerns about disposable e-cigarettes being littered in the streets of our towns and countryside. The scale of the waste of disposable vapes in the UK is shocking, with around five million disposable vapes thrown away every week.

Let me start by stating that I am proud that my constituents have such an active consciousness towards building a sustainable future both for Southend West, and nationally. Protecting the beauty and the local amenity of our countryside is something I consider to be incredibly important.

I have recently been contacted by many constituents with the PETA campaign to replace the real fur used in the Bearskin hats with faux fur. These bearskin hats are an iconic image of Britain and the British Army.

It is so important that we do what we can to help the victims of the Post Office Scandal. The improper prosecutions were an unacceptable miscarriage of justice, and we must now work to set the record straight and achieve justice for those involved.

As you are probably aware, Southend is not currently included within the regulations of ULEZ. However, that is not to say that our constituents are not affected by this scheme.

I am sorry to hear of the distress many of my constituents and their pets feel when the fireworks season comes. I would like to assure all my constituents that I take animal welfare in all forms very seriously.
