Anna Firth met with the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman MP, to discuss the Southend MP’s battle to close the legislative loophole regarding ‘zombie knives’ in private places.
Her major campaign was launched after a horrific ‘zombie knife’ was found in a private residence in Leigh-on-Sea.
Since then, she been coordinating her efforts with Southend Police and Home Office Ministers to tackle vendors distributing them and get the weapons out of communities.
Noting the importance of the issue in a constituency which has suffered terrible fatalities due to knife crime, the Home Secretary met with Anna to express her support of the campaign and commend her for the energy she puts behind making Southend safer.
Following this, an urgent conference has now been organised for Anna, Home Office officials, and Southend Police force to go through the issue in detail.
The Southend West MP hopes that the Offensive Weapons Act will be amended to tackle reckless retailers cashing in on crime and end the possession of ‘zombie knives’ for good.
Anna said,
“This campaign isn’t going anywhere until I get this sorted. We have to get horrific knives out of Southend.”
“I am working with Ministers, Home Office officials and Southend Police to get this sorted as quickly as possible.”
“It was a real pleasure to hear the Home Secretary back my calls for change – it shows just how important this is for everyone.”
