I was pleased to support Melanoma Awareness Month in Parliament and meet with representatives from Focus on Melanoma and The Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Charity.
We talked about what precautions should be taken to protect our skin - and especially the skin of our children - such as wearing SPF30+ sunscreen. I was reminded of the importance of regularly checking your skin and contacting your GP if you see any new or changing moles.
With summer finally just around the corner, I know many of us will be heading to the beach in great seaside cities like Southend.
When rushing out for a day at the beach, I know how easy it is to forget sunscreen but thanks to Leigh resident Sam Batstone's Safe Sun campaign, two years ago I was able to have installed a free public sunscreen dispenser at the Chalkwell Lifeguard Station.
So - remember to protect your skin this summer, and to use the free dispenser if you forget your sunscreen!
