The Southend West MP joined the Prittle Brook Community Group’s litter pick for the Great British Spring Clean campaign on Saturday the 18th of March.
This year’s mass campaign, from 17 March to 2 April, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses, and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.
Led by Meg Davidson, the Co-ordinator of Prittle Brook Community Group, Anna joined a team of 14 volunteers who cleared 22 bagsful of litter from the Prittlewell/Westborough stretch of Prittle Brook Greenway, and then around Southend Hospital and along Prittlewell Chase.
Anna is calling on residents to show pride in their area by pledging on Keep Britain Tidy’s website to pick a bag or more of litter, helping make a huge difference to the environment.
The Great British Spring Clean, now in its eighth year, saw people up and down the country come together last year to clean up nearly half a million bags of litter. As well as being good for the environment, after the 2022 campaign, 85% of people who took part said they felt more pride for their local area.
Anna Firth said,
“I was so delighted to join Meg Davidson and Prittle Brook residents who are helping keep our beautiful local area clean.”
“Even if you can go out and pick just one bag of litter, it will make such a difference to the wildlife, environment, and pride we have in Southend.”
Meg Davidson, co-ordinator of Prittle Brook Community Group said,
“It was a great community effort this morning and we were delighted to welcome our MP Anna Firth who joined us for the event.”
