Anna Firth, Member of Parliament for Southend West, has continued her campaign to get contactless ticketing on the c2c line between Southend and London Fenchurch Street. Following questions in the House of Commons and meetings with transport ministers, Anna joined with local councillors to call for 'oyster style' ticketing for Southend residents.
Commenting on the campaign, Anna said:
'Like many of you, I am a regular commuter from Southend's many stations to Westminster via West Ham. I am extremely keen to reduce the extra hassle for regular Essex to London (and elsewhere) commuters. Including queuing for a ticket, picking the right fare and then locating said ticket on your return journey.
I have been campaigning for contactless ticketing to be introduced locally since my election. Currently, the Extended Oyster PAYG Validity Area ends at Grays. Last year I met with Rob Mullen, C2C MD at Chalkwell Station to discuss extending contactless payments beyond Grays to allow my constituents more accessible ticketing.'
