Anna Firth, Member of Parliament for Southend West, met with fellow MP Penny Mordaunt to discuss the Music Man Project.
The Music Man Project is an inspirational specialist music education service for children and adults with a learning disability and provides life-changing performance opportunities for people who face extraordinary challenges every day of their lives. The group started in Southend and have now expanded across the world. Former Southend West MP Sir David Amess championed the work of the project for many years, and members of the group performed at his funeral at the end of 2021.
Since her election in February, Anna Firth has continued to champion the group, and has met with many of her parliamentary colleagues to persuade them to get involved. Penny Mordaunt has become a patron of the group, and at their meeting last week both Anna and Penny praised the Music Man Project’s founder David Stanley for his devotion to creating inspirational opportunities for musicians with a learning disability.
Commenting, Anna said:
‘The Music Man Project is quite simply one of the best initiatives I have ever come across. David Stanley’s tireless devotion to helping those in need is an inspiration to us all, and I am very proud to be a supporter. I know Sir David would be so pleased that so many of his parliamentary colleagues have become strong supporters of the project, and it was a real pleasure to meet with Penny Mordaunt to thank her for the work she has been doing and to discuss what more support can be given to them!.”
