Southend West MP Anna Firth has celebrated the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service by thanking local health service workers for their commitment.
Commenting on the anniversary, the local MP said:
“The National Health Service has played a vital role at the heart of our communities for 75 years and is as important today as it was when it was founded.
We all owe a huge debt to all health service staff across Southend and I particularly want to thank everyone who works at Southend Hospital for their incredible hard work and dedication.
I am working hard to ensure that our local NHS remains fit for purpose in the years ahead. Over the last year I have helped secure millions of pounds of investment for Southend Hospital, including £8 million to revamp the A&E Department, the ambulance handover unit last winter, two new breast cancer screening units and Active Home discharge suite.
I am continuing to work with the Government and the local health trust to release the rest of the £118 million that was approved in 2021 to make improvements to our hospitals in South Essex, and I am working closely with NHS leaders to ensure that progress is being made to improve the CQC rating at the next inspection.
We all deserve the best possible healthcare locally, and I am doing all I can to ensure that this is the case. But today it’s time to celebrate the NHS and say a very happy birthday – and thank you.”
