On 12th November, Anna Firth attended the Southend United game with special guest, centenarian Annie Maxted. She was also joined by Mayor and Mayoress, Kevin and Debbie Robinson.
Anna first met Annie when the MP visited her for her 100th birthday in March, and found out that she was a lifelong supporter of Southend United, listening to every game on the radio, and being at the opening of the Roots Hall Stadium. Anna made it her mission to make the most special of occasions for Annie and worked with Southend United to organise a match that she could attend.
They had a fantastic experience, with several Southend United players paying a special visit to see Annie, and the manager, Kevin Maher sitting down to have a chat with the Southend supporting centenarian.
Anna said,
“It was an honour and a privilege to help organise for Annie to attend the Southend United game. I first met Annie when I visited her for her 100th birthday in March and heard about her secrets to long life - which I am sworn not to reveal! However, it’s clear that keeping fit, healthy, and loving football is part of it. She absolutely loved the day, and it was a pleasure to be beside her as we roared to a win.
