The Southend West MP has slammed Southend City Council for failing to fix a dangerous stretch of pavement between Cliff Parade and Old Leigh which she asked to be prioritised for a repair in February 2022.
Cracked and uneven, the pavement poses a serious threat to the safety of residents and led to one constituent falling over and sustaining a serious injury to her face, including a bruised eye and blood loss.
Despite a previous commitment to Anna that the Highways Department would inspect the area and carry out necessary repairs, no action has transpired.
Working with Leigh Town Councillors, including Paul Gilson and Craig Watt, the Council is being slammed for failing to bring forward these vital works.
They are calling for the Labour-led Southend City Council to take urgent action and stop spending taxpayers’ money in an inefficient manner on sandbags and barriers, instead investing into long-term solutions which protect constituents from danger.
Anna said,
“This is just another sign of Labour-led Southend City Council moving at a snail’s pace to fix the simplest of things which fall under their remit, such as pavements.”
“They might not have a problem with no sorting this out a year after I requested, but I stand with my constituents who are seriously concerned over the lack of action.”
Craig Watt said,
“We are sick and tired of being taken for a ride by the council. The slow response is completely unacceptable, and I have raised the situation with Leigh Town Council colleagues numerous times. Where’s the action to protect residents?”
