On the 1st December, Anna Firth, MP for Southend West spoke in the House of Commons at the Urgent Question on the rail cancellations and current service levels across the north and nationwide.
As Southend is largely a commuter city, with thousands of residents travelling to and from London and neighbouring areas every day, the train services are extremely vital.
Anna raised the issue that train service levels are just as important as rail cancellations, due to the similar affects that they can cause, such as missing connecting trains and waiting times that can come along slower service levels.
She also questioned the minister about the works at Chalkwell Station, which have been planned for several years, and requested an update from the Transport Secretary on its developments.
Anna has been working tirelessly to continue to improve the train services for Southend, as Leigh-on-Sea, Chalkwell and Prittlewell are all key assets to the constituency.
This summer, Anna met with Rob Mullen, the Managing Director for C2C, and the duo had a constructive meeting, discussing the improvements that are in place for the railway company and how Southend will benefit.
Anna asked in the House of Commons,
“Would the SoS sit down with me to discuss this level of service and in particular, our long-awaited disabled access at Chalkwell station and long awaited contactless ticketing?”
