On Monday the 23rd of May, Anna Firth, Member of Parliament for Southend West, visited both West Leigh Junior School and West Leigh Infant’s School.
Anna visited the schools to present the school with specially designed certificates to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on 5th June. The certificates feature a photograph of Her Majesty and an empty space at the bottom for pupil’s names to be written on them so that each child has their own memento of the historic occasion. Anna also presented each school as a whole with an additional certificate, given a silver frame by Snappy Snaps on Leigh Road.
Every school in Southend West will be presented with a Platinum Jubilee certificate and every primary school pupil or SEN pupil will be given their own personal certificate in the coming days.
Anna fundraised within the community to pay for the certificates and received support from local companies such as Dedman Gray, Dean & Holland Yacht Brokers and the Essex Chambers of Commerce.
Following the visits, Anna said “Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is an historic event and marks a truly extraordinary achievement! I wanted every child in Southend West to understand just how momentous an occasion this for our country, so I’ve created these certificates which I hope the children will take home, look at from time to time and be proud to have lived during the Queen’s reign.
“I’m particularly glad to have kicked off my programme of presenting these very special certificates at West Leigh Juniors and West Leigh Infants School. West Leigh Juniors is one of our Ofsted-ranked Outstanding schools so I was delighted to have a chance to speak to both the teachers and the pupils about what makes their school so fantastic and what I, as a member of the House of Commons Education Select Committee can do to make it even better.”
“I look forward to celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in a couple of weeks’ time!”
