Anna Firth MP today visited South Essex College’s Centre for Advanced Technologies on Stephenson Road to kickstart National Apprenticeship Week 2023.
The local MP spent time with different classes and spoke to the apprentices about what aspects of their apprenticeships they enjoyed and discussed their future prospects before being shown some of their exceptional work.
She also celebrated the combined efforts of the brilliant staff at South Essex College working in conjunction with our excellent local businesses
South Essex College offer 17 different apprenticeships, all of which vary wildly, from Welding to Marine Engineering. The College also won The City & Guilds Excellence in End-Point Assessment Award in July 2022, this award marks excellence in Business and Motor Vehicle apprenticeships.
The Government have committed to supporting apprenticeships all over the country and have created over five million apprentices since 2010. In Southend West alone, almost 500 people started a new apprenticeship in the last academic year
Anna Firth MP also took the opportunity to call on local businesses to “get on board” with South Essex College and their brilliant apprenticeship scheme.
Anna said,
“I was delighted to visit South Essex College today to kickstart the 2023 National Apprenticeship Week.”
“We need young people with vision, enthusiasm and skills to take our new city forward - there is no doubt that an apprenticeship is one of the best ways to release that potential.”
Spokesperson for South Essex College said,
“The week provides an opportunity to showcase the benefits that apprentices can bring to local communities, businesses, and the wider economy.”
“An apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience, a salary and the opportunity to train while you work as an apprentice, leading to being able to step straight into work when you finish.”
The week is all about spreading awareness of the benefits apprenticeship has on both students and employers.
