On Saturday 30th July, Anna Firth MP visited the Anglo-Saxon Weekend in Priory Park with the Councillor of Prittlewell, Meg Davidson.
The magnificent event in Priory Park was hosted by Southend Museums, who created a great celebration of the history we have here in Southend. This was the first Anglo-Saxon weekend they had put on and it was a real success. The event was a great family day out with a whole range of activities on show, such as battle re-enactments, trying on of garments and a glimpse of the Anglo-Saxon history here in Southend.
Anna said at the event,
“I am so delighted to have been able to visit the Anglo-Saxon weekend event in Priory Park. This is the event’s debut, and it has been nothing short of a success; I had such a great time getting involved with all the activities. Events like this showcase as to why Southend is rightly deserved of the City of Culture status for 2029. We have so much culture to offer here in Southend, being so rich in Saxon heritage, as well as our incredible Globe theatre and the London 1665 shipwreck.
