On the 25th September, Anna Firth MP hosted a tea party for residents of Southend over 100 years old, at Cavell Lodge, Leigh-on-Sea. It was the first tea party hosted in three years, due to the pandemic. The event was supported by the Leigh Lions, the Royal British Legion, students from Westcliff High School for Boys and Girls, and David Stanley BEM from the Music Man Project. The tradition of an annual Centenarian Tea Party was started by the late Sir David Amess, and the tradition was upheld by the new Southend West MP.
The event was a great success, filled with lots of joy and laughter, and even a few centenarians showing off their incredible dance moves to some beautifully played songs by David Stanley. Anna went around and interviewed all the centenarians, asking about their lives, their experiences during the war and their memories of our last King.
Anna said,
“I am so honoured to have hosted the Centenarian Tea Party, which was first started by my predecessor, the late Sir David Amess. This year’s tea party was an absolute success. The centenarians really enjoyed themselves and were able to meet other residents in Southend who have achieved the same feat. Thank you to the Leigh Lions, Royal British Legion, Westcliff High Schools, and David Stanley for making this event such a great success”.
