On 24th November, Anna Firth MP for Southend West, spoke at the Iran Human Rights Conference, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
At the event Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), spoke virtually to the brief the conference on the ongoing protests and speak about women’s struggles for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran.
The issues arising in Iran were of grave importance to the late, Sir David Amess, and Anna has taken this in her stride and continued upon his legacy and will carry on to support the ongoing situation.
The event which took place in Parliament, was a cross-party conference, where MPs and peers from all parties, spoke and showed their support to the people of Iran.
Anna said in her speech to the people of Iran at the event, “I want to convey to you and the women and people in Iran that our Government supports you and your right to voice your dissent to the state repression and understands that the Iranian people have had enough of the ruling dictatorship and that they wish to live in an Iran where their fundamental rights and freedoms are respected.”
